Don’t let a holiday hangover be your way of life

We went from way too much egg nog, shop-shop-shop, and parties every week to . . .  what? January, that blank slate, that fresh start, that OMG I gained 10 pounds and my credit card bill makes me want to cry and I’m so tired I just want to binge watch Mozart in the Jungle and eat pizza. A LOT of pizza.Welcome to the holiday hangover. We’re facing the post-holiday blues, the let down, the blah of winter stretching ahead. The guilty or regret about the excess. The disappointment of unmet expectations. The back to work and meetings and being too busy. Are you feeling it too? I am. I feel foggy and a little overwhelmed. I can’t quite seem to get it together. So yeah, that Mozart in the Jungle binge, that was totally me. Two season in three days.We all need a break sometimes, but sometimes that break str--e--tch---es out too long. Numbing ourselves—with alcohol, drugs, overeating, binge watching or reading or shopping, too much exercise, pushing ourselves to do too much—to keep us from thinking about (feeling) what’s really going on becomes our whole existence. It’s time to wake up and break away from that numbed out life.  For five years, I’ve been working with two bright spirits behind the scenes of my personal business, Our Real Work, to create a space where people who are waking up out of the fog can grow, be nurtured, and blossom into themselves. Our work started as a Yoga Teacher Training that became bigger than anything we ever imagined.  What we learned is that when given the space, the tools, guidance, and support, people wake-up to the beauty inside themselves and share their work in the world––whether that’s being a better partner or parent, processing grief, starting a new business, building community learning centers, or singing in public. By simply becoming themselves, people are changing their families, their communities, this world. Now is the time to snap out of the fog and the pop-culture image and expectation. This is the time to wake-up and realize our time is limited and valuable and we can do really AMAZING things when we are fully present. In 2016, alongside Emily Brown and Steph Hanson, I am committing to my dharma. I am committing to this life. I am committing to all of you by creating a space where all of us can awaken to the beauty and worth of our lives. This year we will be launching dharma. The Institute for Awakened Living. (Stay tune for more details.)Right now, it’s time to kick the holiday hangover that’s masquerading as your life. It’s time to wake up. Be present. Be you. The world needs a tribe of people who are stirring, not a bunch of Spirits hungover on the hamster wheel. Live it friends. Are you ready to start a revolution? Join this budding community of souls who are committing to an awakened life.In the comments below, tell me what fog you’ve been in (we’ve all been there) and why you are ready to wake-up!!
